really?! i havent seen the show in a lot of weeks. plz remind me which one was he? the one who was an excellent singer but he was in the danger zone many times in the first few weeks right?
if that's the guy, then im very happy about this. he had to struggle to stay in the competition but he just handled it well and sang so beautifully, there was no keping him down.

Yup, the show hasn't aired (will aire this sunday on indus), but indeed asab abbas who was the petite singer from faislabad (sang Mitwa, Yeh Honsla etc.) has indeed won the competition. Runner up was ali asad (the young guy that had the longer hair at the beginning of the show). And that makes Asif ali babar #3.
Grand finale ads look amazing. Most of the contestants performed and there were many celebs there like strings, haroon etc. Will be a good wrap to the show.

Here's a bit of a treat for PSI fans:
Ali Asad fans - watch this darn good performance by someone that I wish would have been a bit more consistent during the competition:
YouTube - Ali Asad - Yaar Mangiasi
P.S. anybody have his rendition of O Re Piya?
Haroon fans A singer in a class of his own. You either like his music, or you just don't see his talent! (and let's get past the looks and just listen )
Armaan Dil Kay:
YouTube - Armaan dil ke-Haroon Shahid-PSI
Do Pal Ka:
Really liked this performance - takes guts for a person that performs rock so well to sing a Vital Signs number!! Hats off to you Haroon!

hey thanks for uodating us annie and sunnysheikh.
oh ali asad sang oh re piya? im sure he was awesome with it. he had a very strong voice but i agree with you. he did have some consistency issues. he lost heart quickly on receiving even a small amount of criticism. but he should be great as a playback singer. now if only our film industry can kick into gear.
you dont have to make the haroon shahid pitch. im already sold on him and i'll admit, its about the looks. hehe.

^ lol, girlie it's substance that ultimately matters. He is a talented guy and I hope he makes his mark the way he wants to in the music industry. Although I agree that his looks are a DEFINITE asset for him...but there is more to the guy than just that LOL!
Ali Asad's O Re Piya performance was brilliant! There was very little negative that could have been said about the performance. I've searched everywhere honestly, but cannot get a hold of that particular performance of his. And that's exactly it, he can be brilliant one day and crap the next. The only problem that plagued him consistently. But that Yaar Mangyasi performance (the credit to which goes to suhaib hasan for providing the footage) is pure class!

yeah i was wondering where you got the Yaar Mangyasi performance. he just seems to be sitting somewhere casually.
hehe, yeah i was kidding earlier. haroon shahid does have real potential as a rock frontman. his vocals were no match for the likes if ali asad and asad abbas. but he's got true charisma and the fact that composes his own music shows depth of talent.
i really really hope that we see all of these ppl go ahead to have big careers and not disappear on us. and i hope the new crop of contestants in the next season include more girls so that we can have more female music stars too.
this sangeet icon experiement was a successful one as i see it.

Rabians Asif Ali Babbar sang O re Piya.. He did really good.. but the producers had messed up the format.. everyone was supposed to sing a slow and then a fast paced song.. so everyone ended up messing the performance.. Assad Sang sajjad ali 's koi nahin... good but once again the format screwed him.. Heres the O re Piya part
Also the whole show with every single episode is here.. Its an Indian rediff type website so there will be pop ups. but you can click on the video once it loads ...

wow, the asad abbas performances for wohi khuda hai and the two Meekal Hassan Band songs he did with rabba and sanwal were absolutely magnificent! i dont think anybody stood a chance gainst him after that.
im surprised by ali asad's song choices. he had such a solid voice but he kept doing songs like sajaniya, purani jeans etc. he did himself a disservice that way because he couldnt show off his vocal skills. asad abbas' choice of sanwal allowed him to do that unbelievable alaap at the end which knocked everybody's socks off.
i really didnt care much for asif ali babber too much. his delivery seemed kind of hurried to me. if i had to choose my top 3 would have been asad abbas, ali asad and ahsan asees or the twins. singing wise, i think these ppl were the strongest.

i think the judges were right when they said that asad abbas has the power to move you. asif ali babber and ali asad also were technically quite correct but asad abbas has soul which made him the winner in my eyes.
i like the combination of judges. meekal is the tough, demanding one with constant high standards. he's also the most technical of all three. pappu is the funny one. ali haider is the sweetest, kind of like paula abdul in american idol he finds nice things to say about everybody. i dont like ali haider's music at all but he comes across as a very nice guy.
i hope this show goes on season after season. its very entertaining and provides new oppurtunities to rising singers too.

While Asif Ali Baber TOO sang O Re Piya, he butchered the song. Ali Asad had sung it earlier in the show, and so it was not in good taste for Asif to repeat a song that someone had already done...but he didn't do justice to the song either, so he couldn't even touch Ali's performance of the same.
And same here Rabia, did not take to asif at all. Didn't leave a mark at all. You remember ali and asad, haroon, roop etc. but people like danish, aima and asif...they just didn't stand out like they could have.
And also totally agree with you about Ali and song choice. He could really have gone miles with the correct songs. Like the time he sang "maa mujh ko jhulao na jhula" by rahim shah...i was apalled at the choice. It was about being smart with song choices....which Ali definitely was not. BUT the twins brought up a good point at the red carpet, that while Asad Abbas has sung relatively the same kinda songs, Ali came across as trying more versatile numbers. And I think I do agree with that...it was a chance he took, but it almost comes to his credit for doing so. Performance wise- it was possibly his downfall on many occasions.

haan yaar, i didnt like asif ali baber at all. mujhay to us ka koi gana dil ko nahi laga. i would have chosen either ahsan asees or the twins in the top three, along with asad abbas and ali asad. youre right, some of them were just so unmemorable. like danish, sohaib waghera. they never got me going at any stage.
i heard what the twins said. but simply attemting a pop song doesnt mean that you got it right. ali asad tried diff styles without nailing anything. asad abbas just made sure he did his own style just right every time. he did do some pop songs like deewanay from fuzon.
i really hope that in the next season, ayesha omar and ali safina are no longer hosts. they went on and on with so much meaningless gibberish in their opening comments. shut up and lets hear more from the contestants.

I was waiting for someone to point it out.. that outro really was from the soul.. I mean there were some harmonic minor notes in there which echoes the kind of improv that Nusrat sahab did.. amazing..
it was funny to see some ppl in the finale rating Ali asad above Assad Abbas coz Ali is good looking and a total package?
Lol hes the kinda package that postal service delivers broken..... I think ppl have a bias against classical musician.. like that roop raza said on red carpet.. we want to see Ali asad if we buy tickets.. not classical singers... she just proved what a retard she was...

personally, i found asad abbas cute in his own way. he's got a nice smile. i think tahir naeem, ali asad, asad abbas, haroon shahid and roop raza can all be successful pop stars if looks are considered an imp factor.
i also see a very bright future for ahsan asees inshallah. the kid is what? 15 or 16 years old.
and he sings with the maturity of a grown man. already his voice has a masculine quality to it too which i love instead of the squeaky quality that some singers have. his performance of ankhon kay saagar in the grand finale was excellent.
the way everybody commanded the stage in the finale was proof of how far everyone has come. there were no jitters. they used their moment to shine. its was great to see (except for danish's performance of anjane which was horrendous).
