Cool Concert Review: Aunty Disco Project, Gurus Trilogy & Mirage live

Music box :Marvelously Mirage

Mirage is a four-member, soft-rock band that consists of Saad Hayat on keyboards and production, Rehan Nazim on Vocals, Hasan Mahmud on bass guitar and Kashif Asif on drums. The band recently organised the screening of their first music video, Aarzoo, at a local café. However, what stood out about the event was the concert which preceded the screening.

The celebrities spotted at the venue were predominantly band members of the Gurus Trilogy and the Aunty Disco Project (ADP). Mirage’s gig started on time and the band kicked off the proceedings with a cover of U2’s evergreen number, Beautiful Day. A splendid start to the show, the song was aided with Saad’s high keyboard notes and session guitarist Yasir Ijaz’s scorching guitar riffs. Keeping up with U2, Mirage performed another classic, Where The Streets Have No Name; a fine rendition however, one which could have been improved upon.

Next up was the much-awaited original single Aarzoo. A calm ballad, it brought the best in Rehan’s vocal range and the stunning keyboard work got the crowd moving along with the mellow beat. The mood switched to hard-core rock in the form of a couple of Karavan covers: Gardish and Rakh Aas. While Gardish was an average effort, it was the rendition of Rakh Aas that nearly matched the spirit in the original song. One witnessed some serious head banging on this one as Rehan encouraged the audience to sing along. Whilst Saad was in his top form throughout the gig, it was the cover of Coldplay’s smash hit, Clocks, where he was simply impeccable.

The track was given a completely different treatment in signature Mirage style as usually, keyboard notes are absent in rock ditties. Another catchy act was the Strings cover Sir Kiye Yeh Pahar. For people who were anticipating madly for some head banging, the crowd-puller was an original rock ditty, Jeevan. Ignited with Yasir’s blistering guitar chords, Hasan’s hard-hitting bass line and Kashif’s drumming wooed the audience effortlessly. Dressed in a brown shirt and pair of jeans, Rehan was out of control on this one. Spotting him, the audience began to clap and hum along. They screamed the lyrics in an electrifying thrill.

The concert came to a halt on another highpoint, Junoon’s Husn Walon which the band mimicked perfectly and turned it into a 10-minute version with Rehan making the crowd join in with the chorus and the band easily following his various short improvisational melodies with great display of skills by drummer Kashif Asif and bassist Hasan Mahmud. The gig was followed by the video screening, which for some reason, was delayed due to some technical problems.

Where there is a lack of live performances by bands in the country, Mirage displayed the ability to play live very dexterously and impressed everyone present. The originals were catchy and this band is clearly the next big thing in music. The revenues generated from the concert were donated to charity.

Talking to Images, Saad Hayat said “it was a great experience performing live.” About the band future activities, he said, “Our second video has been shot and is expected to be released in a month, followed by a simultaneous national and international album launch sometime around May.”
