Muttiah Muralitharan has been ruled out of the first Test against Pakistan in Galle starting on Saturday due to a minor knee injury. The offspinner hurt his patella tendon while training on the eve of the game and has been advised rest. The selectors have called up left-arm spinner Rangana Herath and offspinner Suraj Mohamed as replacements.
Mohamed, who is yet to play for Sri Lanka, took four wickets against the visitors in the three-day tour match in Colombo which ended on Wednesday. One among them will be expected to partner Ajantha Mendis, who is now the senior spinner.

OK he's not playing this test, but look at the test-matches we had at home like 2 years ago.
Murali was not there either, and they called another spinner named Herath, who also gave us much trouble, and he's also included in the squad.

that helps....whats the pitch like though...

Pakistan has experience playing against Murali, not sure if its exclusion is such a good thing for the team...chances are some unknown lad is gonna come through, its bad news for us if there is going to be a left arm spinner

Sri lanka is no short of spinners, its god Murli is not playing but Pakistan needs to bat exquisitely to put up big totals against what still may be one of the best bowling attacks.

he is so overrated bowler and now every teams knows how he bowl and how to attack this guy ...

Pakistan is the only team in the cricket world which plays spin excellent ...players like younus ,yousuf ,malik ,misbah and Fawad are classic player of Spin

Fully agreed! Even Khurram Manzoor is a good player of spin Just go forward and attack Mendis - be it singles or doubles, but attack outright. You can't go defensive on him..

Oh yeah .. sadly .... But I think his 83 should give him some confidence and he's a good Test player.... Salman Butt becomes a burden to the team when we chase a total of more than 300 in ODIs and in T20s - he's a sweet timer of the ball but not an aggressive ball smasher. We could use his nifty off-drives every now and then - I don't think he'll limit us that much in Tests

he is pak best opener at the moment so cant drop him in test but in ODI series he is dropped due to the presence of shahzaib hassan , imran nazir ,ahmed shahzad and nasir jamshad
