Shehzad Roy's - 'Yaad' (Exclusive Video Review by Hira Fatima)
The man does not fail to amaze ever. Still in a huge confusion about calling him a man or a boy! Shehzad Roy, honestly hasn’t changed much. And especially as he is back with his messy hairstyle, I kinda remember “heeriye ne” the song that got my name personally into so much trouble in 4th 5th standard ofcourse! When as a kid we use to run around in street of the muhalla literally screaming his “Heeriye ne sab say zyada mujhay lagay tou pyaari”! Shehzad always brings back those memories, which he was such a big part of! His music is still as close to our hearts as it was then. His are still hooted by the children who replaced us in the streets of muhallas. Remember my cousin and her starry eyes whenever Shehzad Roy was mentioned. Ah! Well those were the days, when Heeriye ne, was our song, now its his Saali! He just has no plans of stopping anywhere!
Then I remember the time when we all became so outrageously passionate when his tracks like “Yaarab” and “Khudi ka sirr-e-nihaa” came out. He became our hero. He might not have realized it but his music drove us bunters. Inspired us all and played a huge part in our upbringing, made me much more attached to Qalam-e-Iqbal, which I still read and cherish. Just want to Thanks Shehzad Roy for bringing us such beautiful music, and never letting us down in the context of quality of the music, and for educating us, the new generation, about all that the music is supposed to be.
Coming back to Yaad. After the ultra huge success of “Saali”, which was so absurdly made so controversial, yaad has a mellow touch. More realistic, less filmi, serious and no dancing! The song seems like a remake of an extremely old song by Madam Noor-Jehan
And I only realized that because I am huge Madam Noor Jehan fanatic too. There is no similarity in both songs apart from the lyrics. The video that is again directed by Amenah Khan and Ahsan Rahim, the duo who has revolutionized the video making industry in Pakistan. As peppery as saali was, Yaad oppositely is just as mellow. Both tracks are on the very opposite ends of the line. But the amazing thing is that the person watching the Video will not find it difficult to guess that the video has been made by the same directors and for the same artist.
The theme of the Video, or the story line has a very unclear start, its either that the husband and wife are back from the party and have fought on something on their way back home ( guessing from the open bow-tie in Shehzad’s collar and the beautiful and lush Saree Vaneeza is wearing) or they are just dressed up for the mere purpose of fighting. Either way both are up for making it up! Though there are little hitches and things unsaid here and there. My first impression was “ Arghh!! Another amnesia Video” but thankfully enough the video turned out to be based on the domestic problem. Though this statement will get kind of confusing, but the lyrics actually are about a long-term abruption in relations, but the video is about a shot term abruption. Nothing impossible to put together again. The end is a happy one ofcourse, though I wonder what the fight was all about? Oh! Come on! A hunk like Shehzad and a beauty like Vaneeza, jealousy kicks in from all four sides. Better watch out!
Talking about the Video, how can I forget the photography? Its as always a wonderful job by Ali Mohammed and Saleem Dad. Ali Mohammed, who has videos like Jal’s Aadat under his belt is as perfect in his frames as anyone could be. Not knowing much about the technicalities myself, the look of the video just appeals to me a lot! There is sophistication and a soft touch in every colour. This creates a highly soothing effect. Moreover the directors have used two time periods, and two situations, one where there is the troubled couple, and one where Shehzad is sitting and playing the song with his buddies and the recording is going on. This style is just the typical style of Ahsan rahim and amena khan. This can be seen in many of their works including Saali by Shehzad Roy and Channo by Ali Zafar. I clearly don’t know the purpose of this but all I can say is that it gives the Video a realistic touch I guess (wonders). Vaneeza Ahmad has done a marvelous job as the confused, angry yet at the same time adorable female, her acting and her style has all the depth it is supposed to have. On the other hand Shehzad as usual has done his thing in the “perfectest” way possible! Though the video and its theme don’t have anywhere special to take you, it will surely show u a very beautiful couple, and a very beautiful saree and a very good piece of acting!
In conclusion of this long long video review, I would just want to Compliment the song. Without a good song, there cannot be a good video and Shehzad is known for being a trend setter in both fields. A wonderful track with an awesome video is always as welcoming as our bed is after a long travel. So, keep up the wonderful work you have been doing for so many years, and we as Die-hard Roy fans will always be there to cheer for you! Thumbs up once again for a wonderful work.
Gets an 8 out of 10, on my videos scale, it means very good! Best of luck (luck the one who has been always a fanatic of Shehzad like me.)

speaking of Khudi ka Sire-e-nihaa, does anybody have that video. can pakmusic get it for us? it was one of the very best videos ever made by Ahsan Rahim and probably shehzad roy's most elaborate video.

i wanna appreciate the acting by Vaneeza & Shehzad
it seems real to me..the way vaneza smiles sitting on the stairs~hinting that she is enjoying Shezad's making up after some fight or when her eyes meet him, she looks down and then tears come in her eye..such a nice job done by both
